Threading is a hair removal technique which involves a piece of thread, made of 100% cotton, being used to lift unwanted hair straight from the root.

The ancient technique has been used in India and the Middle East for thousands of years and has recently gained popularity in Western culture. We see threading as an art and not just a process of quickly removing facial hair, therefore we take time with each Client in order to give you the best service and results that cater to your needs. Here are some of the benefits of threading.

1. No Chemicals

Unlike other hair removal procedures, threading does not use any chemicals. The only thing that is used is a soft cotton thread. There are no artificial products or ingredients that can touch your skin and cause irritation. Someone who has sensitive skin that is prone to redness or itchiness would benefit greatly from an all-natural technique like threading.

2. Accuracy

Perhaps the biggest benefit that threading has over other techniques is the ability to shape eyebrows with stunning precision. Individual hairs can be targeted, but multiple hairs can still be removed at the same time. It is like having the accuracy of tweezing and combining it with waxing’s ability to remove an abundance of hairs simultaneously. Threading can remove one clean line of hair at once, allowing the threading artist to perfectly shape the eyebrows. Unlike waxing, a threading artist has a perfect view of what he or she is doing at all times. Since there are no other materials besides the thread, there is nothing to obstruct their vision.

It is generally agreed that threading is not as painful as waxing and other hair removal procedures. This may be due to the fact that the thread itself does not directly pull on the skin during hair removal. Tweezing your eyebrow hair by hair can take an eternity. Fortunately, threading solves this problem by removing multiple hairs at once. The threading artist simply weaves the thread through all of the hairs that need to be removed then gives the thread a tug. This quick process can be repeated until the desired eyebrow shape is attained. Eyebrow threading can take anywhere from 5 – 15 minutes to complete.

5. Safety

According to WebMD, threading is a safer alternative to waxing for someone who is using topical retinoids or acne medications. Those drugs can thin the skin, making the skin even more vulnerable to getting pulled off or damaged during a waxing session.

Threading is also safer because it does not use chemicals that can lead to skin irritation and will not lead to painful unwanted skin removal.

6. Long Lasting

How long does threading last? The answer depends on each individual and how fast their hair grows. For most people, the results last from anywhere between 2 – 5 weeks. Another thing to take into account is that threading weakens hair follicles, causing growth to be less dense over time. So the more you get your eyebrows threaded, the finer the hair will grow in and the less often you will have to thread.

7. Affordability

Due to the fact that threading uses no chemicals and is a quick procedure to perform, it is the cheapest form of hair removal.

Whilst there is no precise date marking the start of threading, it is believed that this practice is up to 6,000 years old. Originating from eastern cultures in India and Iran, threading was a way for women to remove unwanted hair and create immaculate eyebrow shapes. It is also thought that Chinese women preferred threading to any other form of hair removal.

The art of threading has been part of age-old traditions and rites of passage. For example, in Persia, it was thought that eyebrow threading marked a woman’s path into adulthood. A young woman had her eyebrows threaded just before she got married to signify her new wifely status. In other parts of eastern culture, it is said that the shaped-brow marked a sign of female virility.

Threading was thought to be an affordable luxury and practitioners used cotton thread, looped and twisted, to create the perfect brow shape. But despite the ease and availability of cotton thread, don’t be fooled into thinking anyone can thread your eyebrows. It takes both training and skill to create a precise arch or beautiful curve.

Although many beauty trends come and go, eyebrow threading is here to stay.

Top Tips to get the most our of your Appointment

Choose your threading artist carefully. Don’t be fooled that all threading artists are trained well. They may break your hair instead of removing it completely from the roots. Also, few threading artists are trained so well that they can reduce the amount of pain inflicted during the process. Make it a point to ask your friends, relatives and check online reviews before making the appointment.

Our top threading tips to make sure you are prepared for your appointment

No tweezers before threading

To get your brows shaped well, refrain from using your tweezers a couple of weeks before your appointment. Let your hair grow out. It makes it easier for the threading artists to shape the brows when in full growth.

Communicate with your threading artist

Sometimes the threading artist knows better than you. They’ve been shaping brows and have an idea what will suit a face type. Do tell them what shape you are looking for but also be open for their suggestions and opinions. They may suggest something better. Also, when you have completely grown your brows to get them shaped, don’t just ask for a clean-up. Communicate with them to find out better options for you.

No makeup

Don’t pile on the makeup before your appointment. Refrain from using any brow products as it may be a problem for the threading artist. Also if you’re the teary kind, avoid using mascara as well. If you have any prior commitment after your brow appointment, talk to your threading artist and ask her to work around the makeup. In other cases, remove your makeup well before the appointment.

Prepare for A Bit Of redness

Threading is a gentler alternative compared to waxing. However, people with sensitive skin are prone to redness and a little itchiness around the area. The area can temporarily turn red and pimples show up. An ice pack can be used to soothe the area. A little post-threading moisturizer along with a massage can reduce the redness. Using a facial spray post threading can help reduce the pain and redness as well.

Don’t go overboard

One way to disguise growth between appointments is with a concealer. A brow pencil and powder will also come in handy to highlight a crisp shape. It’ll avoid you getting threading for some time and can also leave you with nice looking brows. You can use a highlighting concealer to make the area around your eyes appear bright. Don’t go overboard with these products, though.

1. Consulting

We work with your facial structure and industry trends to customize, contour and shape your natural eyebrows. We believe that every Client’s brow should be suited to his/her face and eye shape and we will help guide you to the right look. Your brow artist will point out if there are any gaps in your brows, or if they have been over-plucked which may place a limit on achieving the desired shape.

2. Cleansing

First, we cleanse the area to remove any makeup, oils or lotions that may interfere with the thread grabbing the hair follicles.

3. Shaping

Our threading artists precisely craft brows and remove unwanted hair with little to no irritation using anti-bacterial thread. Throughout the treatment, your brow artist will stop and show you the progress to make sure you are satisfied with the arch that is taking shape.

4. Rejuvenation

We nourish, tap and massage the eye area with Aloe Vera gel to calm and soothe the skin.

How painful is Facial Threading?

Threading is not the most pleasant beauty treatment out there – expect it to be somewhat painful since every one of your unwanted hairs is going to be threaded out individually. But the pain is definitely bearable.

Many of our Clients agree that threading causes less discomfort than brow waxing. Because it targets individual hairs, threading keeps skin irritation to a minimum. Excessive pulling on delicate skin around the eyes is eliminated, and on the plus side for those sensitive to waxing or depilatory products, there is no exposure to irritants.
