Brow Microblading Information
Traditional Microblading
Traditional or classic microblading is a form of eyebrow tattooing that involves the use of a fine blade to deposit pigment under the skin. The result is a pair of eyebrows that look natural yet well-defined. Microblading is becoming increasingly popular due to its ability to create brows that look flawlessly shaped and precisely filled in, a visual feat that can be difficult to achieve with makeup alone. Microblading is also known as feather touch, feathering, or hair stroke.
Microblading is the preferred option for those with normal to dry skin, as those with oily skin may experience smudging of the incised lines.
Technique
At Masi Beauty Bar, the process begins with a consultation where the client discuss the desired shape, color, and overall expectations for their eyebrows. We will carefully select a pigment that matches your natural hair color, pupil color and skin tone. Then, to ensure comfort, a numbing cream is applied before the procedure, taking about 20 minutes to bear effect. While some clients may experience mild discomfort, it is usually manageable.
During the procedure, the Masi uses a handheld tool with an ultra-fine needle to make shallow incisions in the outer layer of the skin, depositing the chosen pigment into tiny, hair-like strokes. These strokes mimic the natural growth pattern of eyebrow hairs, giving the illusion of fuller and more defined brows. Depending on the complexity of the desired design, the process usually takes around 2-3 hours.
Over the next few weeks, the pigment may initially appear darker but will gradually lighten and settle into the desired shade. To ensure long-lasting and satisfying results, a touch-up session is usually recommended around 4-6 weeks after the initial procedure to perfect the shape and color.
Ombré Shading
Ombre brows are a subcategory of powder brows in which the same process is applied to elicit a gradient rather than a uniform effect. Suitable for those with combination or oily skin, Ombre brows display transitional shading that enhances depth and brightens the face.
Technique
Following standard consultation and treatment area preparation protocols, Masi will use the handheld tool to gently etch small, precise pokes into the skin, starting from the front of the eyebrow and working toward the tail.
As the procedure progresses, they will gradually adjust the pressure and depth of the pokes to create the desired gradient effect. The front of the brows will remain lighter, while the intensity will increase towards the arch and tail. This technique allows for a seamless blend between the lightly shaded and deeply shaded areas, creating a natural effect.
Throughout the process, Masi will periodically step back to assess the symmetry and balance of the brows, making adjustments as needed to ensure a pleasant result.
After the Ombre shading is complete, the Masi will clean the area again and apply a soothing ointment.
Combination Brows
Combination brows artfully blend the best of classic microblading and powder brows. The treatment starts with delicate hair strokes in the front section to create a lifelike illusion while gradually transitioning to a more powdered finish towards the tail. Unlike Ombre shading, which uses the same technique from front to end, combination brows employ two distinct methods.
Technique
The process begins, per usual, with a thorough consultation where the technician will analyze the client’s facial features, skin tone, and natural eyebrow shape. Based on the assessment, the artist will suggest a suitable combination brow style that complements the client’s appearance.
In the first phase of the procedure, the technician uses the microblading technique to mimic tiny, hair-like strokes, etching them into the front of the brow with the microblading tool. After the microblading phase is completed, the shading process begins. Using a different tool, Masi gently adds soft layers of pigment to the middle to the tail-end of the brow, creating a gradient effect.
Combining microblading and shading allows for a more versatile and realistic outcome. Microblading provides the look of individual hairs, while shading gives a denser appearance to the brows, resulting in a well-defined, natural-looking brow that requires minimal maintenance.
Pre and Post-care Instructions
How to prepare for your appointment:
There are a few things you can do to prepare for the procedure:
- Avoid Sun Exposure and Tanning – For at least two weeks before your appointment. Having a tan or sunburnt face can ruin the longevity of the application and can make the pigment fade very quickly.
- Do not Pick or Tweeze Your Eyebrows – For a minimum of one week before the procedure. You should avoid plucking or tweezing prior to your session. Nonetheless, weeks/months after your session, you should clean up the eyebrows, as microblading does not remove your hair.
- Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol – Since these types of beverages can thin your blood, they may cause bleeding during your microblading service, so you would want to avoid these for at least 24 hours before your treatment.
- Have Clean and Makeup-Free Skin – While most of us don’t like to leave our houses without looking our best, it’s important you arrive at your appointment with clean skin that is free of makeup, oils, and lotions.
- Avoid Working Out and/or Sweating – Since sweating and heat can open up your pores, it is best to avoid the activities 24 hours before the session and up to two weeks after the appointment. This is due to active sweating; other exercises, such as swimming, can cause premature fading.
- Avoid Tylenol and other Blood Thinning Medicines – If you are on medication or have a medical condition, you should consult your physician or medical professional before treatment.
After Care
After your procedure, it is essential to follow the aftercare instructions provided by Masi. At Masi Beauty Bar, we will provide you with specific and detailed instructions for aftercare during your visits; however, the instructions detailed below are applicable across all services.
- Keep the area clean and dry for the first 7 days in the morning and at night. This will help keep the area free from bacteria, buildup of products, oils, and dead skin.
- Apply a thin layer of ointment to the area 2-3 times daily for the first week.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for at least 2 weeks, but we recommend 4.
- Avoid picking or scratching at the area.
- Do not use makeup on the brows for at least 7 days.
- Avoid exercise and excessive sweating for at least 2 weeks, but again we recommend 4 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you’ve gotten microblading before, you may already know what kind of package you want. However, if you’re new to microblading, you probably still have some questions. Here are some frequently asked questions about microblading.
Some discomfort is normal during the microblading process. However, a topical numbing cream is applied to the area beforehand to minimize any potential pain or discomfort. Most people find the procedure to be tolerable.
The entire microblading procedure usually takes about 2 to 3 hours. This includes consultation, mapping out the brows, numbing the area, and performing the microblading itself.
The results of a microblading procedure can last anywhere from 12-36 months. The length of time will vary depending on factors such as your skin type, age, lifestyle, and how well you care for your brows after the procedure.
Immediately after the procedure, your eyebrows may appear darker and more intense than desired. However, the color will gradually soften and lighten during the healing process, typically within the first few weeks. The final color will be more natural and customized to your preferences.
Absolutely! Microblading is an ideal solution for individuals with sparse or thinning eyebrows. This technique can create the illusion of fuller, more defined brows by carefully filling in gaps and adding individual hair-like strokes.
Keeping your eyebrows dry for the first 10 days after is crucial. Avoiding water, including swimming, excessive sweating, or getting wet in the shower, is important to allow the pigment to settle and the skin to heal properly.
The initial healing period for microblading usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks. During this time, the eyebrows will go through various stages of healing, including scabbing, flaking, and color settling. It’s essential to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your microblading artist to ensure optimal healing.
While microblading provides a foundation and shape to your eyebrows, you can still groom and shape them as needed. However, it’s important to be cautious and avoid plucking or waxing directly over the microbladed area, as this can disrupt the pigmented strokes. Trimming stray hairs and maintaining the shape around the microbladed area is generally safe and recommended.

n the initial week of the healing process, you may experience redness, tenderness, and mild scabbing. As the second week approaches, the scabs or flakes will naturally peel off, possibly resulting in a lightening of the color. Subsequent weeks involve a gradual settling in, with the color becoming more pronounced. By the end of the fourth week, your brows should be fully healed and settled. If you have any concerns or notice any unusual symptoms, it is advisable to reach out to your technician or a healthcare professional.
There are a few key differences between microblading and traditional tattooing. First, microblading is much less invasive. The incisions made during a microblading procedure are only superficial, whereas those made during a tattooing procedure go much deeper into the skin. Second, the pigment used in microblading is semi-permanent, while the pigment used in tattooing is permanent. Finally, the results of microblading will appear more natural than the results of tattooing because the strokes made by the microblade mimic the look of real hair.
Like any cosmetic procedure, eyebrow microblading carries some risks. Possible side effects include temporary redness, swelling, itching, or scabbing in the treated area. Serious complications are rare but can include infection or an allergic reaction to the pigments used. Choosing a reputable and experienced artist to minimize these risks is important.
